The Blue Flag, awarded consecutively
since 1990 to today to the Pescara Tourist Port, is a FEE (Foundation
for Environmental Education) award issued to the European coastal
locations that meet quality criteria regarding parameters of bathing
waters and services offered, taking into account for example the
cleanliness of the beaches and of the tourist docks.{Established in
1987, the European Year of the Environment, the blue flag campaign is
managed, in all European states, by the local FEE bodies that,
through a National Evaluation Committee, carry out inspections of the
candidate towns and cities and then submit the national candidates to
FEE International.
The award is assigned, every year, to
the beaches of more than thirty world countries in Europe, South
Africa, New Zealand, Canada and the Caribbean according to the
criteria chosen by the FEE. The blue flag is awarded for two
different types of merit: The Blue Flag for beaches certifies quality
of beaches and bathing waters while the Blue Flag for marinas
evaluates and certifies cleanliness of the waters near the ports and
absence of sewage drains.
